5 Tips From Don Saladino, Our New Chief Wellness Adviser
Next Article

Here at HALO Sport, we are very excited to announce our partnership with celebrity fitness trainer Don Saladino! Don is joining the Hydration Revolution as the team’s Chief Wellness Adviser.

Don comes with over 20 years in the world of wellness and fitness - one look at his roster of over 50 celebrity clients is enough to prove his expertise! He whipped Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Sabastian Stan into superhero shape for their respective Marvel movies. He’s also the trainer that helped Blake Lively lose 61 pounds of baby weight after she had her second child.

Check out his five tips to getting into superhero shape:

  1. Don’t get in a calorie deficit: Food is medicine and we can still get a substantial amount of calories, protein, carbs and fats to feed the body and become a fat burning furnace. You don’t have to starve yourself from the foods you love. I also drink HALO Sport. It adds some all-natural flavor into my life with electrolytes – which helps with re-hydration – and it’s only 10 calories, so you can enjoy it with your favorite snack or post-workout meal.
  2. Include the farmer walk: The farmer's walk is one of the most underutilized tools, but it makes everything in the body work hard. You can burn fat, build strength and muscle, and it’s safe. It also has a wide range, people who can’t hinge or do a simple toe touch can do a farmer walk.
Psst! Not sure how to do a farmer's walk? Check out Don's video below.
  1. For a leaner core, stick to the carb window: Many think that in order to have a flat stomach or abs, you need to completely eliminate carbs from your body. This is the wrong move. This is what your body is using for energy, and if you don’t have any, it will poach from your good fats and proteins. Carbs also help in the recovery process, so you will bounce back better. Eat your fair amount of carbs, but stay away from them in the morning and evening. Eat them within a 3-5 hour window of your workout. And stick to good carbs like sweet potato, gluten-free oatmeal, quinoa, and rice.
  2. Recovery is key: A body that functions better moves better, and a body that moves better can look better. Recovery enables you to rebound from stressful situations and become more resilient. If we don’t take the time to let our bodies heal, we become lethargic all the time, we get sick or develop a disease. There are many methods to recovery: get a massage, meditate, take a nap, or just take a long, relaxing walk.
  3. Take things in moderation: A lot of people think fitness is about going to the gym for hours. Fitness can be as simple as making better choices and doing things in moderation. For example, you can take the stairs instead of the escalator. I think once we start breaking people into this simpler idea of fitness and they start building confidence, they realize it’s not that hard.
